Today the word “Gnessins” is considered a sign of professional skill and quality of music education. Graduates of “Gnessin school” are the elite of the modern music culture. New stars and new names appear annually, supporting high position of Russian performing school.
Everybody knows the names of Victor Pikaizen, David Tukhmanov, Natalia Shakhovskaya, Vladimir Tropp, Ivan Monighetti, Alexander Rudin, Boris Berezovsky, Alexander Knyazev, Yevgeny Kissin... All of them are graduates of “Gnessin school”. However, great fame always stands for the years of hard work and continuous improvement under the guidance of great professionals who strive to give their pupils and students the best possible learning experience in all spheres of art and culture.
Gnessins are very busy: numerous hours of lessons, rehearsals, concerts, festivals, tours... Desire for constant self — improvement is an inherent quality of all the students and graduates. They honor the traditions established by Elena Gnessin and are constantly creating something new: the violinist Roman Mints and the oboist Dmitry Bulgakov have founded the now-famous Moscow festival “The Return”, the cellist Pavel Serbin has created a unique ancient music orchestra “Pratum Integrum”, the pianist Ivan Rudin has organized the festival “Ars Longa”... The television contest “Nutcracker” also comes from Gnessin school. The names and projects of gnessins not only have wide geography, but they can also be found in various fields of culture. For example, former Culture Minister of RF Alexander Sokolov and Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev Gregory) are Gnessins school graduates.
Gnessins get used to the stage from a young age. Pupils and students successfully play in the orchestra “Gnessin Virtuosi”, created by Director Mikhail Khokhlov 25 years ago. The festival “January nights” enables young talents to take the stage, performing famous concert compositions, and to show themselves as artists or dancers as well.
It is not surprising that upon graduation, all the graduates find their vocation: being a first-class performer, original composer, or keeping the traditions of music pedagogy, educating a new generation of musicians. Thanks to their teachers, students, graduates and everyone who puts their work in the development of the school, Gnessin school is a living organism that absorbs and retains all the best and continuously generates new creative ideas.
